In the midst of a snow-capped mountain range and at the narrow head of a valley, Known as the “Switzerland of America,” Ouray Restaurants lacks the nearby ski areas that attract tourism, which is the case for other alpine Colorado towns. In many ways, Ouray retains the charm of the turn of the century.
In addition to being registered as a Historic District, the entire town has many buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. The Ice Park there is free of charge and attracts amateur and professional ice climbers from around the globe.
Let’s jump into our List of the Best Restaurants in Ouray Colorado.
Artisan Bakery and Cafe
A bakery of this type should be avoided at all costs in ouray restaurants. It appeared that everything in the case was either under- or overbaked, but I ordered three items to verify. I was correct in my visual assessment.
It was my pleasure to purchase a slice of the quick bread. The quick bread was gummy to within a 1/2 inch of its exterior. It was under-baked to the point that upon opening the paper sheet containing the slice, my fingers plunged into raw batter.
The cookie was dark enough to appear to have been burned. Burnt disks smelled and tasted unpleasant.
The third item, a BLT sandwich, was particularly disappointing. It was claimed that the bread had been baked in the oven of the two people inside. They should employ a second baker. It was a pleasant experience working with the two individuals behind the bakery case.
In a remote town, what an amazing find. The burgers, onion rings, and fries were excellent. Restaurant owners were excellent people, and the restaurant provided excellent service (The young daughter greeted us, and was very pleasant towards my special needs daughter).
While the interior is somewhat crowded, the front porch can be very comfortable if the sun is out. Here are two special notes. Firstly, this restaurant has apparently been owned by the same family for over 60 years, and secondly, it allows writing on walls, tables, and almost anywhere inside. Hence, all over the place there are written names of guests and messages.
The Ouray Brewery is open every day of the week. On each of our three floors you will find fine food and exceptional craft beers. We have a kitchen and a small pub on the first floor. On the second level, we have our main dining area and brewery. Additionally, level three features the only rooftop patio in the “Switzerland of America” – Ouray, Colorado.

The Candy Co.
Trying the sundae while stopping for ice cream. It was only a matter of eating quickly enough before the mound of ice cream melted over the sides. Both the ones I tried and the samples my companion offered me were good. The ice cream only makes it worth a stop.
it’s one of the best ouray colorado restaurants right now, cause of his Gorgeous ice cream.
Bon Ton Restaurant
Ouray restaurants Will give you a different impression Than others, cause Locals love Bon Ton! You may choose from a variety of entrees, including pasta dishes, steaks, and seafood. The food we serve is fresh and prepared to order. A current and accurate menu can be found on their website.
It’s unclear how Bon Ton rated number 1 on Trip Advisor. Our expectations from reading the reviews may have been too high.
The second area, which looked old and dated, required us to climb some stairs. It would have been better if we had requested to sit in the main dining room. We had even made reservations.
Our salads took a long time to arrive. The croutons seemed to be out of a bag. There was no taste to the chicken parmesan. Several times, we had to ask for water. I found the prices to be above average and the splitting fee to be $6.00. However The overall experience was fine. We probably won’t return.
Back Street Bistro
On the recommendation of the hotel where we were staying, my husband and I enjoyed breakfast there the first morning of our visit looking for restaurants in ouray co.
Once again, we found ourselves back there! Staff were friendly and helpful, Yummy food and great service. There is also a breakfast burrito and a two-egg, potato, and toast breakfast. The place fills up quickly, so I recommend going early. Both days we were there, there was a line out the door. (Many people were being served at the counters, though.)
Formerly, the store was located on Main Street in a larger store, but they were evicted. It’s good that they didn’t pack up and leave. For this fine restaurant in Ouray, a smaller space is better than none at all!
Mouses Chocolates and Coffee
Founded in 2001. Located in a small town nestled in the San Juan Mountains in the southwest corner of Colorado, we are a small family-owned chocolate company and coffee roaster. The chocolate we use is only made with Belgian chocolate and it is all made by hand.
Except for Christmas, we keep our shop open every day. If you are in the area, stop by. We would love to hear how our chocolate has impacted your life. Our love for chocolate, fine ingredients, and sharing them with our family and friends brings us together.
I was brought to the Ouray Outlaw by a friend on our very first date 9 years ago, and the experience was as enjoyable then as it is today! The environment is very comfortable, and the food is delicious. Also, the western décor is authentic, and there is a full bar which made it one of the best restaurants in Ouray.
